There is growing demand for porous members capable of providing the three functions of heat insulation, soundproofing, and vibration damping to achieve high levels of both carbon neutrality and comfort. However, despite advances in model based development technology for vehicles and parts, developing members that, in a manner similar to sound absorbing materials, express functionality via the internal material microstructure remains a process centered on trial and error through experiments.
This new technology constitutes a core model based research (MBR) technology for materials that shorter, more efficient development cycles to realize the intended functionality using as little raw material as possible. Specifically, it makes it possible to design the most critical microstructures that achieve the heat conductivity, sound absorption, and vibration damping functionalities of porous members, as well as to bring the mechanisms of those microstructures to light.
